Indian women cricketers will collect the same match fee as their male counterparts, BCCI secretary Jai Shah has confirmed

They will earn INR 15 lakh per Test, INR 6 lakh for each ODI and 3 lakh for T20I.

India's centrally contracted women cricketers are set to earn the same match fee as their male counterparts for appearing in international matches, according to BCCI secretary Jay Shah, as per the board's new pay equity policy.

Under this policy, women - like men - will earn Rs 15 lakh for a Test, Rs 6 lakh for an ODI and Rs 3 lakh for a T20. These amounts are significantly higher than the flat INR 1 lakh and 2.5 lakh for a Test match that Indian women players currently earn for an ODI or T20I game.

While describing the move as a "first step to tackle discrimination", Shah thanked the BCCI's apex council for helping implement the move, which he said was a "commitment to our women cricketers".

As things stand, there is no change in BCCI's annual retainers for women players. Currently, those in the highest bracket take home INR 50 lakh, while Grade B and Grade C are worth INR 30 lakh and INR 10 lakh respectively. In comparison, male cricketers are divided into four categories where A+ grade players collect INR 7 crore and A, B and C graders collect INR 5 crore, 3 crore and 1 crore respectively.

ESPNcricinfo understands that the BCCI has engaged the country's top women cricketers to change the annual retainers. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur is believed to have attended a meeting held at the board's Mumbai headquarters.

Apart from contracts and match fees, the inaugural Women's IPL, which the BCCI formally announced at the annual general meeting earlier this month, is also understood to have been on the agenda to put together a process for TV rights and franchise ownership with the board. Discussions are also underway on whether the league will pursue a draft process or an auction for players.

Women in India have made significant strides in recent months. They completed their silver medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games with a record 3–0 ODI series against England in September. Earlier this month, India beat Sri Lanka to win a record seventh Asia Cup crown in Bangladesh. They are set to host Australia for five T20Is next November and December.
