Adrian Newey was pivotal to Red Bull acing their new car under the new regulations. The Maestro created a beast on the field and it showed as Max Verstappen blitzed past the rest of the grid with some serious pace. However, watching their rivals Silver Arrows win everything for almost a decade was not an easy thing to absorb for Red Bull.

Newey believes that it has helped the team in the long run and is one of their strengths now. “I think one of the strengths of the team is that we put our heads down and got through that period,” Newey said of 2014-18 when Mercedes dominated the grid. He continued, “Once we had a good power unit again with a partnership with Honda, then we were able to respond.”

Horner then added, “During that period, it was tough because we’d come off the back of four dominant championships and suddenly this barren period – another team was just light years ahead of everybody.”

“The most important thing was keeping the team together, focusing on the things that we could control, that we could influence.”

Red Bull will hope to build on their title-winning run. Moreover, Horner would love to dominate the grid, as Mercedes did. However, with the penalties imposed for breaching the budget cap, RBR might not find it so easy.

F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali believes Red Bull dominance won’t last long

Despite a standout 2022, Stefano Domenicali believes it will be hard for Red Bull to dominate the grid in the long run. The Italian feels that with the new regulations on board, the rest of the field will catch up with RBR. Furthermore, he also praised Max Verstappen for a stellar season.

The F1 CEO said, “With the current regulations, also on an economic level thanks to the budget cap, I expect that many teams will be closer together in this battle. I expect that teams’ winning cycles will be much shorter in duration.” [Translated from Google]

The F1 boss also praised the reigning world champion for hardly putting a foot wrong. He stated, “Not to take away from the quality of a driver like Verstappen. He is like a cannibal at the moment with full focus on every race.”
